More and more people are dependent on reconciling work and family life. The use of a home office is usually a welcome solution. Long travel times to the office, including traffic jams in the morning and afternoon, can be avoided. However, the work that is now to be done at home must be as good as the work that is done in a conventional office. In contrast to the desk in an office complex, it is possible to design your own workplace according to personal preferences and wishes. However, an agency that is particularly concerned with setting up your own workplace is usually not necessary. Some simple tips are completely sufficient and have personally helped me a lot.
Create your “office” – 6 Tips
Literally think about creating an office space. For daily routine, it is important that you have a clear-cut between work and family life. If you don’t have a separate room, or you can not have a separate space in any room, then make sure that you are also setting boundaries. Especially if you need to use the kitchen table or dining table during the day, then make sure that everybody knows that when you are in this space that you are working.
Design of the workplace: the desk
Most offices exude a cool, almost sterile atmosphere. However, this can be avoided in a home office. For example, warm and natural colors can be used. A desk lamp with a warm light also creates a pleasant atmosphere. Even small accessories, such as a leather mouse pad, ensure a coherent overall picture. The desk is of course the most important element for the work. So that it fits perfectly to its user and above all to the job to be performed, it makes sense to use an individually designed model. Here it is advisable to purchase a desk from a furniture store, where a personal combination is easily possible. Not only the look but also the dimensions are decisive.
Screens – Two is Better
Most of the work today is done digitally, i.e. with the help of a PC. Just like in a normal workplace, the user will also spend a lot of time at his desk within his home office. It can be shown that it can be more pleasant for the human eye if not just one but two monitors are used for the duration of a working day. This can also bring organizational benefits. This innovative chess move can speed up work processes considerably. If you have enough space on your desk, you should consider using a second monitor.
Be innovative and don’t compromise on quality
Even if it is your own home, the workplace should not be less well-equipped. In this case, this relates to the technology available there. The keyboard and PC mouse should be of a suitable quality so that it is pleasant to use both elements throughout the day. The same applies to the PC or laptop, as it is the heart of the home office. In addition to these, more technical aspects, there should be no savings, especially with the office chair. An uncomfortable sitting posture can cause neck and back pain and even serious postural damage. Of course, this should be avoided, which is why an ergonomic office chair should be used.
Storage space for the home office
Sufficient storage space should also be considered in your own home office. After all, it is all the more important to keep order here. An investment in a suitable organization system is worthwhile and saves you a recurring and time-consuming search for documents. Cupboards and shelves that serve as storage space also offer the possibility of bringing color into the home office and thereby giving the room its own character.
Avoid cable clutter
Many people already know the problem from private use that their own PC feels like they need about 1000 cables. These in turn invite the office chair to get caught in them. To avoid this annoying fact and thus make everyday work a little more pleasant, the cable spaghetti should be tamed with special adhesive tape.
Impeccable Wi-Fi
Of course, there shouldn’t be any problems with the WLAN at a home office either. It is therefore essential to ensure that there is a stable and reliable connection. If many people are on the same Wi-Fi, consider using a LAN-Cable to the router to get a better and stable connection.
